Add a little farmhouse flair with this DIY farmhouse style dairy sign!

Good Morning Friends!

Before I get talking about and sharing my project, I’m going to get serious for a minute and remind everyone about something very important to me.
If you are new here, I am a breast cancer survivor. The subject is near and dear to me, as you can imagine.
I am passionate about getting the word out. Not really about awareness, I think most are aware, but about being your own advocate and being informed.
I wasn’t informed and my cancer was missed repeatedly by mammogram.
More and more women are learning about this but it’s always good to take a read just in case.
Read my story here to find out why mine was missed and find out what every single woman has the right to know. >>> My Story.

Okay now on to the fun stuff! :)

Today, I thought I’d share a little something I made a few weeks ago.
You might remember I mentioned making several “animal” themed projects for this post >>> DIY Halloween Sign.

Well, this is one of them.

I was scrounging around in the garage trying to find something to use for a sign.
I found this…

There’s always something! ;)
This was perfect for a farmhouse style dairy sign.
As you can see, I sanded the edges (they were rough cut) so it’d be nice and smooth.

Want to see some of these projects in “live” time? Hop on over and follow along with me on INSTAGRAM. I’m always sharing in my stories as I’m doing projects, finding new furniture, fun finds….just all the day to day behind the scenes.

Then I created a graphic similar to the one in these 2 projects:
Old Milk Can Makeover
Dairy Box Tool Box

You can download it for free here.

And then I added >>> this cow graphic from The Graphic’s Fairy to the wording I created.

After I saved it to my computer, I then transferred it to my Silhouette Program.
Want to see how easy it is to use your own designs inside of Silhouette? Click here >>> How To Import Your Own Designs Into Silhouette Cameo.
Or you can also use any of these transfer methods to do it if you don’t have a Silhouette machine.

Here is a great >>> Silhouette Bundle.
I LOVE mine! It makes things so easy.

To get the board ready, I first sprayed it with black spray paint.
I then applied the Silhouette vinyl I cut of the graphic/wording design.

Once that is applied to the board, I then gave it a spray or two of white spray paint.
I then removed the vinyl before it was completely dry.

The black base coat creates the letters for you. Isn’t that neat?!

You might be able to see in that photo above how the Silhouette ended up cutting the cows.
For some reason, it wanted to cut an extra line around the inside of the cow which created a bit of white when I sprayed.
User error, I am sure! ;)

So I fixed it with a black permanent marker.

You can see it above.
You won’t be able to tell in the finished piece though.

I gave it a light sand to distress and a final spray of sealer, and done!

These mugs are so fun. I found them at TJ Maxx one day and had to have them!

A little sneak peek of the buffet below (used to be my china cabinet) that I gave a new paint job to, new knobs and new stained top too.
I’ll be sharing the details soon.

Anyway, this farmhouse style dairy sign was a fun little project to do.
And the Silhouette makes it a breeze.
