Wine Box Repurposed (perfect for essential oils, jewelry and more!)
This wine box repurposed is perfect for small items like pens, artist paint brushes, jewelry, essential oil bottles and more!
Hey friends!
Today I’m sharing a brand new repurposed makeover. An old wine box repurposed, to be exact.
I love finding old things at thrift stores, then bringing them home to turn them into something else completely!
So much fun, I love the challenge.
See how I turned this old wood wine bottle storage box/carrier into a neat little storage box for so many other things instead.
You might have already seen a little snippet over on Instagram if you follow along over there. ;)
Wine Box Repurposed
Which began like this…
Cute.
It even had a nifty little rope hanger to carry it around.
But the wood box was nice.
I could envision using it to store some of my essential oils in but you really could use it for just about anything.
I began by first cutting off the rope hanger. I wouldn’t be needing that for my purposes.
Then I filled the holes in with wood filler.
MATERIALS LIST
I then measured the fabric for the top inset area.
You might recognize this fabric. I also used it on >>> this dresser and love how it turned out.
Oh, and on >>> this little stool too!
I simply laid the fabric over the inset area, upside down, and marked the line where I needed to cut.
Can’t get much simpler than that!
After the wood filler was dry, I lightly sanded to smooth it out then painted it white.
And black on the inside…
I then applied the Mod Podge to the inset area on top and then attached the fabric piece I cut.
Once that was dry, I went over the whole thing, even the fabric, with a coat of poly. (linked in the materials list box above)
A little distressing on the edges and done!
Isn’t this so sweet now??
That old wine box repurposed looks completely different now!
No more wine….just all the stuff. ;)
I mean I guess you could still store a bottle of wine in there.
But I think it’s perfect for small essential oils bottles like this.
Do you use essential oils?? I wrote an entire post devoted to it if you are interested.
You can find it, here >>> Healthy Ways To Scent Your Home Naturally
You can even use it as a watch box…
…or maybe any and all jewelry, watches, bracelets, etc…
A great way to keep things tidy and organized. And another great find on a budget!

UPDATE! See it now, here!!
Happy weekend to you, my friends!! It’s my husband and my 28th wedding anniversary this weekend.
We have no big plans but I just love when it falls on a Saturday again, so, so fun. :)
xoxo
Happy Anniversary. Wishing you many more anniversaries to come.
Me and hubby just celebrated our 50th anniv.on the 7th of this month.
Love what you had done to the wine box. What a clever idea. I think my granddaughter would store all her bottles of nail polish in it. As for me; well that would be ideal to store my good Zibra paint brushes in and would be hid from my hubby from ever finding them. š
Thank you, Colleen!! And a big happy anniversary to you as well! :)
Nail polish, that is a great idea too! And yes, hide the brushes!! lol xoxo
Great use for this box! I have tiny bottles of EO blends that my friend made for me to diffuse. I keep them in a wood cigar box that is the perfect height for their small size. A box like yours is what I could use for my larger EO bottles.
Happy early Anniversary! It is fun when a special day falls on the weekend. Our 25th is coming up soon.
Wood cigar boxes are great too! But yes, this one would probably accommodate the taller bottles. An thank you, Paula! xoxo
You’re so gifted. Many don’t have the ability to create such an idea. But to implement it and have it turn out so beautifully is brilliant.
Aw, thank you truly, Helene! xoxo
i’d love to do this to some of the wine boxes i’ve received and then regift them to the guest who brought their wine in the box! thanks for the idea! did your cut edges not ravel, or did putting the poly seal them?
Happy Anniversary Nancy!
Oh, I think that is a wonderful idea, Gwen! I really love that. :) I didn’t really have any issues with raveling, maybe just one corner but it was tiny and once you Mod Podge it down, it’s a non-issue! And thank you!! xoxo
This turned out super cute!! I see those wine boxes quite often but never pick them. I might have to next time! Enjoy your anniversary weekend!! XOXO
Thanks so much, Christy! Yes, I can usually find these off and on! And thank you, we are going to try!! :) xo
I got one of these at Goodwill and had to replace the latch. Then didnāt know what to do to it so I cut the rope off and glued polka dot paper on it. I still donāt like it. Now itās sitting empty taking up space. I read your post and did a head slap š! Yours is so pretty and I bet it would work for remote controls or chargers. Thanks for the idea! Happy Anniversary!
Aw thanks, Cecilia!! Yes, pull that thing back out and get busy on it. I think it would be great for remote controls and chargers! Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo
So much better now! Wood boxes are always so handy to have.
Thanks, Marcie! Oh yes, I agree! Anything I can store stuff in is a win for me! ;) xoxo
White-again!
Yes, I do love white in its simplicity! And it goes with so much. :) So yes, I do paint a lot of things white. But that’s not really what I’m trying to share here in this post, it’s more about taking something that was “thrown out” and changing it to fit my decor. Making something useful out of something that was no longer wanted or needed. Along with hoping to inspire others to do the same. And of course, then painting it a color that makes their heart sing, whether it’s white, pink, purple, blue or black. :)
Happy Anniversary š„. I love the fabric choice for this refurbished idea, turned out very nice.
Thank you, Christina! :) xo
That is absolutely awesome! Something as simple as changing the direction of the box gives it so many more options! Reading this was one of those āwhy didnāt I ever think of thatā kind of moments for me! LOL love the paint job and fabric too!
Aw, thanks so much, Wendy! :) xoxo
Ooooooh…a watch box. Love that idea. Maybe a thin paint roller inside so that the watch bands stay curved (and watch faces unscratched)? Thoughts?
Oh, that is brilliant!! Love that idea! Thanks, Robin! xo
Very cute, Nancy. I like what you did with it. I’m curious about what you might have done or plan to do with the little drawer that was in the bottom of the wine box. You don’t mention taking it out but I see it’ not there in the finished item.
Thank you, Naomi! I had to go back and look at my pictures because I was like “what drawer? what is she seeing??”. It’s the paper on the front. It shows a drawer handle but there really isn’t a drawer inside, it’s just the paper design on the outside. :) xo
