Wood Bench Update
This sweet wood bench update was quick and easy with paint and pretty ReDesign transfers!
Hello beautiful friends and happy Trashy Treasure Tuesday! I’m sharing an old wood bench I found at the ReStore last week and I’m thrilled with how it turned out! I can’t wait to share it with you.
If you are new around here, a few friends and I get together, and share our latest “trashy treasures” with you on the second Tuesday of every month. Be sure to scroll down so you don’t miss theirs!
As you are reading this, I’m on my way back from wonderful Charleston, SC. We went to visit family and go to the Wine & Food Festival too. Fun, fun!
I hope you enjoy today’s project as much as I enjoyed making it beautiful!
Wood Bench Update
Here is how it looked when I found it.
And once my puppies got a whiff! Haha!
Nosy little buggers. I’m guessing they smelled the pup that got at it on those corners.
This one…
And this one…
The only thing wrong with this bench. Boo. Otherwise, it was solid and in great shape.
But that didn’t scare me off.
REPAIR
I used “plastic wood” and recreated both corners.
Once painted, you’d never even know.
I’m going to paint it white and use these transfers on the top.
MATERIALS LIST FOR WOOD BENCH UPDATE
- Plastic Wood
- Sandpaper
- TSP Alternative
- Continuous Sprayer
- Ultra Grip
- Victorian Lace Paint
- Paintbrush
- Tough Coat Topcoat in Matte
- Somewhere in France Transfer
- Lush Floral ll Transfer
Prefer to shop on Etsy? I have an Etsy shop also, here!
CLEAN
I gave it a very light sand all over and then cleaned it up with our TSP Alternative.
ULTRA GRIP
Next, I used Ultra Grip, just one thin coat.
You don’t have to use this but if you have a slick surface/finish it greatly helps with adherence.
PAINT
I applied 2 coats of Victorian Lace. (my favorite white)
APPLY TRANSFERS
I laid out the transfers to see where I wanted them to go.
Then went about applying them.
If you are new to transfers, you can read all about how to use them in this post here.
How To Use Rub On Decor Transfers
I lined up the second part…
But…do you see how the dotted line sort of hides the edge? I should have paid attention better the the “WHITE” in between the dotted lines because I didn’t have it over quite far enough.
Dang.
No worries, I’ll paint it a bit to blend.
Not the first time I’ve had to do it! lol
After I was finished with that, I moved over to the other side.
And done!
TOPCOAT
Well, almost. I did add a coat of Tough Coat Topcoat and plan to add another. So it will be two coats total.
I think these transfers were perfect for this little wood bench.
And you’d never know some pup somewhere used the corners as a chew toy anymore either.
Good as new!
Isn’t she sweet??
I always love transfers that flow off the edge and around like this.
PIN it to save it!
Check out my friends’ makeovers below!
Have a wonderful week, friends!

I love the bench so much!! The transfers are perfect. Is your big dog an English Cream Golden Retriever? I have two that look very much like yours. :)

Really lovely transformation!
Thanks, Barb! xo
Those pups! So cute. Amazed at how you repaired those corners. Came out so pretty. By chance do you have a link to the rug shown?
Thank you, Debra! Those pups are the best! :)
We bought the rug many years ago now so unfortunately it is out of stock at most of the places that used to carry it. I did a search and found it at two places still in stock, limited sizes. Here ya go!
It is probably still my favorite rug in our house! :) xoxo
Great job on the mending Nancy! Love those pups!!
Thank you, Caye! :) xoxo
