“Treasure Hunting” and My Latest Haul of Thrifty Finds!!
Hey guys!
Since I’m always talking about my thrifty finds and how I love to go “treasure hunting”…….
I thought I’d share some of my most recent ones with you today!
Most of these were bought to sell in the shop I have a space in along with my furniture re-do’s.
But I decided I just couldn’t part them! So they stayed right here with me.
For example…
….this very cool vase.
I try to find unique, interesting and beautiful things to put in the shop.
So that’s where this was going….until I got it home.
$2.00
And then I saw this….
A gorgeous, solid crystal bowl with a silver rim.
The silver rim was very tarnished but cleaned up pretty well.
The more I looked at that gorgeous prism of colors in the crystal…..
…the more I realized I had fallen in love. It would stay!
$4.00
And then there are these….Porcelain sugar/creamer set. Totally bought to sell!
This so very awesome retro cake plate and cover!
It is the same one pictured in my “Red Velvet Cake Recipe” post here.
Another I was going to sell!
$3.00
Cute, little ceramic dish with lid……
It happily resides in my office.
$1.00
Ok, so this one is not necessarily a “thrifty find” but I thought I’d include it….
I found this at the Oak Antique Mall in Petersburg, VA a couple of months ago.
I just couldn’t pass it up.
See, I have this weakness for glittery/sparkly things AND colorful, iridescent things.
Hard to tell from the picture but this glass is just so lovely and colorful.
So it came home with me…and was always meant to stay! ;)
$15.00
And one of my favorite finds!!
I just ADORE these jars. I pick them up whenever I come across them!
Which is not often enough!!!
By the way, this was actually a birdfeeder…someone had screwed an aluminum tray to the top. So it was to be used upside down with feed in it.
Cute, yeah, but I just want the jar!! I have plans for it. ;)
$2.00
Or how about this adorable pale blue butterfly canister?
Yep, bought to go to the shop!
But it didn’t make it there. ;)
$3.00
Nice bronze candlestick…..
(just the stick, not the candle)
$1.00
Bought for the shop!
But I like it. So it stayed with me….so far.
I haven’t found a place for it yet so it may end up at the shop after all!!
$2.00
Another candlestick….
…this was so unique I had to have it!
It has that colorful iridescent (that I love!) glass middle and “tarnished” silver metal at the base and top.
$1.00
The plate. OH how I love the plate.
Just a white plate…nothing special. But it is!
Bought to sell….but it’s already hanging on my wall. :)
And it came with all hanging hardware attached and ready to go! Love that!
$3.00
I’m a sucker for blues and blue/purples…….
And this little glass vase has the most gorgeous hue. It had to stay.
(ha…oh joy, lovely reflection…in all my pink sweat pants/slippers/sweat coat glory…….just ignore that k?)
And no, it doesn’t usually sit there teetering on a ledge that is too small….just for picture taking purposes!
It was the only place I could get a good shot of the pretty glass color.

How about this milk can?!!!
On one side you can still see the imprint in the metal which says
“Borden’s Owat” which I think stands for Owatonna, MN.
I’m guessing they had a dairy there at the time? Or still?
Anyway, I don’t know the history of this but I think it is so cool.
I have BIG plans for this one! And yes, it’s staying with me!!
It’s in the “painting stage” now.
I’ve created a great graphic I’m going to paint onto one side of it.
On the other side, I’m going to try to paint the original letters where the imprints are.
Keep an eye out for the post…coming soon! (Update…you can view the “after”, all painted and pretty, of this milk can HERE)
$14.00
Another one that’s not necessarily a “thrifty find”….
but that depends on how you look at it!
This old door is going to become the King sized headboard for the MBR.
Be on the lookout for that post too!
$45.00
The silver tray.
The gorgeous, heavy silver tray with the beautiful grape/leaf motif.
The detail…..and did I mention how heavy it is?
It was almost black with tarnish. It cleaned up very well!
Bought to sell. But obviously it stayed too!
$4.00
The same silver tray in it’s new spot….isn’t is just so lovely?
On top of it is the ‘oh so gorgeous’ piece I just picked up Friday!
The lavender/blue dish is a piece of Vintage Carnival Glass- Harvest Grape- bowl with grape motif on the bottom.
I fell in LOVE when I saw it and had to have it.
The iridescence, the lovely blue/lavender shade…perfection.
$12.00
Oh!! Another reflection! But this time it’s of the picture wall I am working on in the study!
Post coming soon on that too! ;)
These 2 pieces are sitting on the Aubusson Blue dresser I refinished/painted here.
And the picture wall is going up above the same dresser.
Lots of redecorating/restyling going on over here!
Isn’t it just so beautiful? And a great find!!
I love how the bottom of the bowl, the grape detail, reflects in the silver tray. Sigh.
Makes me smile to look at these two pieces.
And you can see them as you enter my home….love that!
Actually ALL of these pieces make me smile!
And that is why they are all still with me.
They are treasures to me. Every one of them.
And honestly feel more treasured than pieces I would buy, and pay much more for, elsewhere.
Truly like finding treasure! I don’t know why that is…but it is!
Maybe it’s because I feel they have a “story”. And that is just cool to me!
In decorating we should all be surrounding ourselves with the things we love….
……that make us happy…….and that mean something to us.
Get rid of the things that don’t!
It will make your home feel harmonious…and less cluttered! ;)
So there you have it!
My thrifty finds, aka treasures, for the last month or so!
Isn’t is amazing the things you can find?
It still amazes me every day!!
Now I know from this post it seems I keep everything I find. I don’t.
Really and truly.
Soooo….
I think it will be fun to start doing a monthly post to share with you the great “thrifty finds” I come across…
…the ones that stay and even the ones that end up in the shop!
Happy “treasure hunting” to ya!

Thanks so much! And thanks for stopping by!
See, I’d be in trouble if I was buying for my shop, I’d want to take it all home too! So many great finds! I think my faves are the milk can, the cake plate, and the DOOR because I can already imagine what you’re going to do with that as a headboard. I have a small collection of depression glass that I love to hunt for when I’m out and about. So fun to do that. I think you should add this as a regular feature too. :) xoxo, Sharon
Thanks Sharon!! Yes, I do sometimes want to keep it all..lol…obviously! ;) But it is fun to go out hunting for it all! Especially when I come across something really great! The fun part is… I don’t always come across great things so when I do it’s totally exciting!!
Love, love, love the cake stand and crystal dish with the gold rim! Awesome finds!
