Life is Short, Buy the Shoes Y’all (DIY Sign Tutorial)
Life is short, buy the shoes. I say yes, I like that philosophy!
Seeing my title, I almost wished I had made my sign say that. haha
Oh well, next time.
This time it’s just “Life is Short, Buy the Shoes”.
Because you know what? It really is.
Buy those shoes, live your life, enjoy and be happy.
I have a friend who embodies that completely. This sign was made for her birthday.
And she does have some great shoes too! ;)
It was pretty simple to do. Follow along and I’ll show you how.
Life is short, buy the shoes tutorial
I started with this thrifty find….
I picked it up at the thrift store. Isn’t it cute??
I am sure it was well loved at one time!
But I pulled it apart and painted the frame black.
Then I created this graphic for the inside.
I did this in {affiliate link} *PicMonkey. You can create all kinds of things over there.
They have a free version you can start out with but the paid version offers many more options (and is what I have).
But try it out for free first and see if you like it!
Okay, so I printed that out in reverse and taped it to my board. (this was behind the print and matte in the frame.
EASY!
I found a “shoe” online and printed it out too.
Rub to transfer.
The entire shoe and coloring did not transfer so I had to hand draw that part in.
You can see how I’ve painted in the black parts below…
Any craft paint will do.
I then went back and created the outlines of the other side of the shoe and painted them in with pink and gray.
(you can see more in depth sign tutorials in the project gallery, here.)
I finished it up with this sealer.
This stuff was found in clearance at Michael’s awhile back.
I just love it!
I’ve used it on quite a few things since purchasing it.
You can see the “pearly” effect it gives the painted picture below. (or I hope you can)
All framed back and up and ready for it’s new home. :)
So fun.
I just love this saying.
PIN it to save it!
So don’t pass up those thrifty finds. They can be made over into just about anything!
Signs are a favorite of mine but there are many things that can be made over.
And they’re all waiting for you at your local thrift store.
Go and see what you can find.
And remember….life is short, so buy the shoes!
Check back in to see what I kind of sign I turned this one into…
UPDATE!! See it now, here!

Just think of all the fun you could miss out on if you don’t buy those shoes! Grab that ‘ring’ while you can!
Exactly! :)

Seeing how I just bought 4 pairs & new spring ads are popping up daily maybe you should make me one that says “Don’t go broke buying the shoes!”
Haha Ellen!! 4 new pairs sound wonderful to me!! ;)
Enjoy!!

Such a cute sign Nancy and great words to live by! Gotta love PicMonkey :) You’ve mentioned a couple of times now how you simply rub your graphics onto the surface. Are you using an inkjet printer?
Thank you Marie! Yes, inkjet. I sometimes print regularly and rub the back with a pencil or this way.
The colored inks don’t transfer well though, just the black. :)

Nancy, I always love your signs … but, this one is too cute! Such a good thought for life in general…and of course, a great excuse after a good show sale. Hugs!
Aw thanks Wendi! Exactly, now you can feel no guilt for buying the shoes!! ;)
Nancy
What a cute project and a great gift for a friend. I see frames like this all of the time when I’m thrifting. I’ll have to start purchasing a few for fun projects like this.
Thanks!! I have quite the collection around here! ;)
Nancy
I have a pretty little sign that says, “you can never have too many shoes”. I have a porcelain shoe collection, so it’s fitting.
Love that!! :)
Nancy
Hehehe….This is SO my sister. And I little bit me, I might add. I think we both need one. :)
