Painted ceilings add warmth and coziness to any room! Plus, painted ceilings add a beautiful design element, too!

Hello friends! I thought I’d share our painted ceiling and a few updates, too.

So, as I mentioned in this post, I was planning on giving our morning room a complete makeover-ish. Painting the ceiling and adding wallpaper. Well, I moved the furniture around too! ha!
Our morning room has been great. We use it so often, and I love that it’s adjacent to the kitchen/living areas. But since we are closing in our screened porch and adding that space (and moving our coffee bar area out there, along with a small seating area), we decided to create a different type of room where the morning room used to be.
Basically, the same idea and we will use it the same exact way, however, it will have a bit different look and feel.

Painted ceilings are a fun design choice, plus add warmth and coziness to the space.

We absolutely love our painted ceiling in this space, the foyer.

And now the “morning room”, tada!

We love it in here, too!

The Anew Gray by Sherwin-Williams is the perfect warm, but not too warm shade. It’s not brown and it’s not gray, it meets somewhere in the middle, which I love.

The wallpaper that I’m putting up in here has blue, not aqua, coloring, so I moved the curtains from the living room to this room. They match perfectly. (The rug also has blue)

Here’s the wallpaper again.

Isn’t this wallpaper going to look great in there??

This room gets quite a bit of light, so the darker ceiling works perfectly in here. And I love the cozy feel of this room now.

I originally planned to keep the furniture layout exactly the same, and so I ordered new artwork for the wall. (one that is more blue instead of aqua)

coastal marsh painted artwork

So pretty! And the colors are PERFECT for the room/rug/curtains, etc. Plus, it’s a coastal marsh, which very much depicts where we live. Perfect!
But we won’t be using it in here because…

…as I moved furniture around to paint the ceiling, it was sort of feeling like a blank slate, and I got the itch to move stuff around. I just LOVE when you do that, and it feels so fresh! The easiest thing to do to change things up in your home to give your home a new look.

You can find the artwork here.

I love having the chair over in that corner as it opens the space up, going from the kitchen to this room. Makes it feel so much more roomy and open. Weird how little changes do that. But see how lovely that artwork is in here? But because I changed things up, the tall cabinet I planned to put in here will now go on that wall in the center where the print is. That’s okay, I have plans for this pretty artwork…I think I’m going to use it in our new room once it’s finished.

I might end up getting a smaller ottoman, though. This one is a little big now. (or removing the coffee table, not sure yet)

Looking at this photo, I realize I need to move my rug back to center it better! Ha! I didn’t notice that in person.

Really love that artwork and happy that it will find a place in the new room instead.

OH! We will also be removing the wainscoting and installing shiplap (or some type of board and batten design) instead. Gosh, we’ve been working on this house for 20 years, and over the years our decor style changed and we began adding more coastal-type features (board and batten, shiplap) since it better goes with our area, etc. We will be changing out the wainscoting in the foyer, too. Then we will be done, hahahaha! Sure thing, Nancy. ;)

In case you were wondering about what I have hanging in the living room since I moved the blue curtains in here. Wonder no more!

I found this fabric and had these made…

blue patterned curtains with white dog and black and white small dog on couch

Just something a little fun. (ignore the messy couch, lol) But look at those cute pups.

I just love the fabric and rich blue shade.

I can’t remember if I shared that we also got a new rug in here. The other one was tired and done, plus it was very large. It was bought when I had different furniture, and it was spread out a bit more around the room. Since I didn’t really need a rug that large (and it was tired!) I decided to go with a different, smaller one. And I love it! Funnily enough, I realized after we got it down that it looked familiar. haha! It’s the same rug we have in our bedroom, duh, I guess I like it! haha!!

I’ve changed a few things in our bedroom, too. I’ll have to share an updated post with photos soon.

And look at this little bugger. He’s got a soft little mat right there and lies on my new rug instead. lol (and of course with his “baby bed” in mouth)

This rug has gorgeous colors in it. You can find it here.

And how about a little peek at the new room?? It’s getting there.
The ceiling has been raised, woohoo, skylights in, windows, doors. Need door hardware, HVAC (next week), and electrical (same). Then insulation, drywall, and flooring.

roughed in porch with vaulted ceiling, two skylights and windows going all the way around.

Oh my goodness, I can not wait. Thankfully, we got my husband’s cousin (who builds, remodels, etc) to come and help so we could move this project along. More of a two-man job, for sure. Especially that ceiling deal there.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, finally.

I can’t wait to begin decorating in here. And opening up those French doors for good. I’ve always loved the French doors open to the porch, but could only do it for limited times during the year. Now I can do it all year long. Love it because it just opens up the space so much and lets so much glorious light in. Yay!

Oh, and y’all see that paint spill, don’t ya. You know who did that, right?? lol I painted something out there and of course knocked my paint over!! ugh! I saved most of it, thankfully!

Inside, I’m getting ready to begin applying the wallpaper, and then I’ll work on the tall cabinet makeover. I’ll be sharing both of those as I complete them, so stay tuned for those.

Have a great weekend, friends!

xoxo

  1. I love what you’ve done and you’ve inspired me to change my livingroom furniture around. Such a little thing but it makes a big impact that will no doubt lead to more changes LOL… It’s nice to have renewed excitement in my home. Thank you Nancy!!!

  2. Oh my gosh I love everything! I have been itching to paint the main living area ceilings darker for so long- you’ve inspired me! I have cathedral ceilings so I don’t know exactly when that will get done! LOL

Absolutely love your style! Blessings to you and yours!

    1. Thanks so much, Jayne!! Yes, do it!! It’s only paint, right?! Cathedral ceilings are bit more challenging but theres always a way! xoxo

  3. Wow, so much going on! No vacation for you guys?? Hope you’re staying safe with all the flooding going on.
Your new room was so so much light, going to be great!
I’d take out that large ottoman like you said. You always pick the best floor coverings! How come you didn’t create a new painting yourself, I’d say you are certainly good enough to do it??
Carry on, you are doing great!

    1. Yes, always, sure feels like it, huh?? We do fit in some down time but always “hanging over our heads”. But, hey, we are self induced DIYers though!! ;) And thank you so much for that vote of confidence on the painting. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. xoxo

  4. I love everything, Nancy! The rugs, curtains, paint color, and especially those cute little critters. I can’t wait to see the room when it’s done because it looks so cozy.

  5. Love what you’ve done. Can’t wait to see the wallpaper. Not a fan of the double round mirrors though. Reminds me of granny glasses. The end tables look a little out of scale with the sofa. Maybe a bit bigger or not so “leggy”. I too like to change my furniture around a bit. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks, Janet! I have actually considered changing out the mirrors now that they are over on those walls. And yep, I think this wall is longer and the small end tables look a bit out of place now. Not sure what I’m going to do about that yet. I did center them under the mirrors which sort of make them look like they are out in lala land! Ha! It’s definitely a work in progress since I hadn’t planned on moving the furniture around originally. :) xo

  6. Nancy, great choice on art work, love the rug and recommended it through your link to my sister for her renovated lake house, your ceiling looks cool as heck, loooove that choice of wallpaper, and your new room is coming along so nicely. I am so happy for you. Yippee!!!

  7. Love it all! Your room is coming together and I am so happy for you. It’s exactly what I’d like done as well. Probably by next year my husband will start it. Love the skylights!
