Laundry Room Update #1 (sink, cabinets & countertop)

Hello friends!

It has been so busy around here that I haven’t been able to do many projects. However, we have made progress on the laundry room, so I thought I’d share an update on that today.
I’m also sharing something new I’m doing. It’s been a long while since I have, so we’ll see how this goes, lol.
Next week, I’m sharing a brand new project. It’s one I worked on several months ago. Unfortunately, I had a little (big?) “oops” with it and put that mess up for a while, lol. I’ll share what it was, don’t worry. Anyway, I got over it and got back to it, so it’s finally done. haha

Let’s talk laundry room first.

We got the cabinets in…and…

Light wood kitchen cabinets with shaker-style doors and drawers sit beneath a white countertop and sink. A window with white trim and cleaning supplies in the background enhance this laundry room. The floor is wooden.

…we decided to build a different style wood countertop.

Our original countertop was well-used and well-loved for almost 10 years, but it was more rustic and “farmhouse” in style, and I want to move away from that.

A close-up of a smooth, dark-stained diy wood countertop with visible grain patterns, set against a white wall background. The polished wood surface appears shiny.

If you want to see how we made this one, check it out here: How To Make A DIY Wood Countertop

We used 2×6 wood that we biscuit-joined together. And that just gives a more rustic feel.
This time we used 3/4 furniture-grade sanded plywood (2 pieces for thickness) and 1×2 for the edge trim.

A light wood countertop with a clean, unfinished plywood surface sits above light wood cabinets and a sink, next to a window and a stove in the kitchen.

We are going to add a wall “end” to the countertop that rises to meet the other countertop that will go over the washer/dryer. It will be made exactly like this one. (so you won’t see all of that there)

A sheet of light-colored plywood with a rectangular trim border rests on top of a black appliance, next to a wall—ideal for cabinets or as a sink countertop in a laundry room. A small watermark with the letters acn appears in the lower right corner.

Next, we measured out for the sink. Woohoo! Can’t wait.

A wooden kitchen counter with blue painter’s tape outlining two rectangular sections sits below a window. Light wood cabinets and drawers, perfect for storage, are underneath the counter.

And voila! Just like that! It’s in. (hahahaha, I wish, not quite, but of course it seems that way once posted here on the blog, right?)

A modern kitchen sink with a stainless steel basin and faucet is set into a light wood countertop, with sleek cabinets below and a window above—perfect for both your kitchen or laundry room setup.

Yippee. I have a sink in the laundry room. So excited.

Light wood kitchen cabinets with a light wood countertop, under a window with a modern faucet and sink. White shiplap walls, open shelves with dishes, and a cordless vacuum mounted on the wall complete this fresh laundry room look.

You can find the sink here.

AND…I also got a sink in the garage!! What?! I know. Crazy with all the things I’ve done and made over the years, I’ve never had one down there.

A white utility sink with a modern stainless steel faucet is installed against a white wall in a small laundry room. The sink sits on sturdy legs and has a small drainboard area on the left side, perfect for everyday laundry tasks.

Our garage is also in an overhaul right now. We are trying to create a nice little workspace for me in there. I’ll share it once it’s done.
That sink is going to come in SO handy! I’m thrilled.

I got the ceiling paint cut in before the cabinets went in. Now all I have to do is roll the rest.

A ceiling partially painted with blue along the edges, leaving the center unpainted. The photo, taken from an angle in a laundry room, also shows part of a white wall, window, curtain rod, and upper cabinets.

Smoky Blue by Sherwin-Williams, for the win. I love it!

No idea on pulls/hardware yet. I haven’t even looked.

The rest of what I’m going to share is just life lately. Like these bird feeders we put up. They are on the posts that hold the cafe lights around our patio. I can see them from my desk in our new room.

A bird feeder filled with seeds hangs from a metal hook on a wooden post, seen through window grid panes in the laundry room. Lush green bushes and trees create a vibrant backdrop beyond the cabinets and sink.

You can find the iron hooks here and this birdfeeder here. The bird food for this one is here. I like it because it won’t clump up inside this one.

That type and this tray type…

A squirrel sits on a green hanging platform feeder outside, eating food, with a wooded area and fallen leaves in the background. The scene is viewed through the laundry room window frame above the sink and cabinets.

…that has apparently become a squirrel feeder instead. Haha! They are quite entertaining, to be honest. I’ve shared a video story or two of them over on Instagram.

You can find the tray bird feeder here. And the food I use in it is a bit larger here.

But at least the birds still have this one.

Four small birds perch and feed at a bird feeder outside a laundry room window. One on the left has a bright red head, while the others are brown and streaked. The view is partially blocked by the window frame and nearby cabinets.

I’m sure I’ll share more stories about the escapades with these two, lol. Did I mention the neighborhood cat that stalks the squirrels at the feeder?? So funny!

Anyway, follow me on Instagram, and I’ll share more videos of them.

Lastly, many years ago (we are talking 2012/2013), I had a booth to sell my things. I haven’t had one since. I have a friend who owns a consignment shop, and so I usually just take my things there and sell a few on Marketplace. There is a really nice (well, I think there are 9 of them in the area now, from Virginia Beach to Richmond) vendor-type mall/shop that is not too far from me. I decided to get a small spot in there and see how it goes.

Here’s my little spot the night I set it up. It’s right by the front window, as you can see. I’ve only been in about a week.
It’s called The Lazy Daisy and is in Yorktown, VA, for the locals here. If you are not local, I think they will ship.

If you’ve been around a while, you might recognize some of those pieces! That is part of the “cleaning out the garage” because they have all been stacked on the shelves out there. Some for a long time! It was time to do something with it all and time to get our garage nice and organized. And a place for me to work that makes more sense. (you know, more sense than my living room or kitchen all the time, lol)

Oh, and here is the name of my booth there.

I went with my blog colors here and used my tagline, “restore restyle relove,” as the name.
And of course…repeat…over and over and over again!

And that is it! That is what I’ve been up to, among a million other things. Gosh, how is this time in my life busier than when my kids were young?? Sure feels so much busier, anyway!

I hope you enjoyed the update. And thank you all so much for following along with me! I appreciate each and every one of you more than you know! Have a blessed weekend, my wonderful friends!!

xoxo

The word Nancy is written in elegant, flowing black script, reminiscent of Chalk Style Paint For Furniture, with a heart shape used to form the dot above the letter i. The background is plain white.
