Dollar Store Dessert Challenge ? What? Yep.

At least half of the ingredients had to come from the Dollar Store.
But hey, why not really make it really challenging and have ALL of them come from there.
Now, that’s a challenge.

That’s what I did to make this…..

Dollar Store Dessert Challenge - Apple Chedder Spice Cake - 3

Apple Chedder Spice Cake

All ingredients came from the Dollar Store (except eggs, etc)

Not the healthiest of desserts….but I like a challenge. ;)

Here’s what I bought:

Strange mix, huh?

That’s what happens when you walk around the Dollar Store clueless as to what you will make! ha!

And you should have seen the look on the cashier’s face as she grabbed my first item to scan….when I said, “Wait! I need to get a photo of these first, please.” (hahaha)
OH MY GOSH, I think she thought I was a nut.
Well, I am, but it was funny…as I then went on to explain they were for a blog post.
(as if that would help the situation at all)

Blank look followed. Yeaaahhh…okay, never mind me.

I went to so much “trouble” to get that photo and I didn’t even end up using it in this post. You can see the photo I took on my Instagram account where I posted it that day, if you are interested.

Then I went to the grocery store for the whipped cream and ice cream (both for the photos…I went with ice cream, by the way).
I was in line with it when a family friend walked up behind me and said “is that lunch?” jokingly.  Ha, love it.
It was just fun all the way around, I tell ya! ;)

But here is all that stuff magically combined to make this….

Dollar Store Dessert Challenge - Apple Chedder Spice Cake 1Looks decent, right?

Tastes pretty good too. (yes, I tasted it after I took the photo)

…especially warm with a big ole scoop of Vanilla ice cream.
I am sure it will disappear in no time around here. (not by me — I try to stick to the healthy stuff)

So here’s how you can make one too, if you like.

Chop up your apples….

Than add them to a bowl along with the Cinnabon Cream of Wheat (weird, I know), Sugar, Chedder.
Mix well.

Then make your batter as directed, except add Cinnabon Cream of Wheat, water (extra) and approx 1/4 tsp of fresh grated Nutmeg.

Pour into the dish.

Top with the apple mixture.

Mix your topping ingredients (Apple Spice Oatmeal, Chedder, Brown Sugar, Flour (I used Almond Flour), Butter.

Then sprinkle over the top of the batter-apple mix.

Fresh outta the oven….

I know, it’s a little…brown. That darn middle took forever to cook.

But look, it’s all good.

  1. Nancy as I grew up in a family owned bakery this looks delicious! And I don’t think it’s too brown either. Going to give it a try.

    1. Oh that’s so neat Sheila. I love to bake! This is probably not one of my best creations but it was fun to do. ;) Thanks so much for saying it’s not too brown too!

Hope you have a great weekend. I sure wish it would get warmer and stay warmer!
