Christmas Decor without Red

Have you ever done your Christmas decor without red?? I’m not sure I’ve gone completely without red before, but I did this year, and love it!

Oh my goodness, y’all, how fast has Christmas snuck up on us this year! Wow, I am SO behind. I feel like I say that every single year, but I really mean it this year!! lol We have been so busy and on the go, and finishing up this room remodel is a significant reason it feels so crazy this year, too. Doesn’t help at all that I fell down our stairs literally a week before Christmas. From the top! Ugh! I’m too old for that mess! That has certainly slowed me down (but not really, I haven’t stopped moving since it happened, I’m just slower at it. haha), I’m working through the pain and praying it will ease up soon.
I also haven’t wrapped a single present, and I have several things I need to cook tomorrow for hosting on Christmas Eve and our family dinner on Christmas Day. For sure, the hubby is getting ALL the wrapping duty this year. We usually do it together, but I already told him, you’ve got this. Haha!

Anyway, that’s how it’s going for us. How is it going for you?

I’m looking forward to taking it easy soon…relaxing and enjoying the season and all that it stands for.

Today, I’m sharing our holiday home and our Christmas decor without any red. I have changed so much around here lately, different colors, new curtains, wallpaper, etc., that when I started adding all the red, it didn’t feel right to me. Red can go with most anything, especially for the holidays though, I just wasn’t feeling it this year. So, I skipped it!

I was worried it wouldn’t look festive and Christmas-y, but we love it! Hope you enjoy seeing how you can decorate for the holidays without using red.

Christmas Decor without Red

Let me preface by saying, I also decorated minimally. Last year, I did a non-traditional, very simple decor with no ornaments on the trees, etc. I kept them natural and loved it. I actually considered doing that again this year, but instead I decided to add a few ornaments to each tree. (I usually fully load them, which is beautiful, but a daunting task to remove when it’s time to take them down.)

I found this very realistic garland at Hobby Lobby this year.

There’s my Santa! This is his regular spot at this point.

Somehow, I managed to snap a photo between the rotating images on our Frame TV. Ha! I couldn’t have done that if I tried. And of course, I didn’t notice it until now.

Here is what it was supposed to look like.

Sort of blue theme in this room.

The new kitchen wall got a bit of greenery and a few elements added.

shelves on wall with decor and christmas elements and cards lined up on the ledge

Still, our favorite place to line up all the beautiful Christmas cards we receive.

The old “morning room” is about finished. And it has a tree too.

This was my grandmother’s (on my dad’s side) china cabinet. My mom had it and used it when my grandmother passed away back in 97. I have it now that both of my parents have also passed away. It’s a beautiful treasure for so many reasons.
I had planned to refinish it (or paint it) in some way, but decided to go ahead and put it in the room and use it for now. But looking at it in the room, we both like it as-is. I may just freshen it up a bit instead!

Yes, the dining room has a little tree too!! I put up four trees. (2 are new, slim style, so easy!!) However, very minimal decorating on each one, as mentioned. And I just adore the lights and trees in each room.

If only you could see all the boxes strategically out of view! ;) So many to go through and wrap still. I certainly hope I got everything I was supposed to because who the heck knows. lol

This little cutie has found her new favorite spot.

The new room!

room with windows all around and tall ceiling with desks, tree and corner couch

Finished!! (except for a few final pieces of decor) The round table is not staying; a small square ottoman is going in its place.

And the desks are getting these new chairs to go with them.

desks and large tv on wall with merry christmas image

If you recall, this was going to be our “office”. We are currently upstairs in a spare bedroom, and I can NOT wait to get outta there!! lol I will love being down here in this room to work.

We decided to go ahead and put another TV in here, though. It rotates away from the wall, making it easy to see from the corner couch. When it’s off, it will just look like art on the wall, since it’s a Frame TV like the one in the living room.

Do you spy Ryder?? He’s hanging out over there but still keeping an eye on me.

As you can see, we have moved the coffee bar in here. We still need to put the shelves back up. I will be having a full reveal once we are completely done with this room.

But for now, Christmas.

  1. Lovely! Such a feeling of calm. Makes the green tress and swag’s stand out. I’m so glad to see Ryder supervising! 🤗 I hope he’s doing well. Merriest Christmas to you and family!

  2. Beautiful and festive! Please leave the china cabinet as it is. I’m so glad I didn’t paint or refinish my grandma’s… it’s family history. Merry Christmas!

    1. Thanks, Lulu!! And no, I am loving it in it’s originial state! I’m so glad I didn’t paint or change it before we brought it in here as well. Happy New Year!! xo

  3. Goodness! That’s scary falling down the stairs 😱 you’re lucky you didn’t break anything! I haven’t used red for Christmas in years….we live on the coast so it’s white, blue, and naturals for me! Yours is beautiful! Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!

    1. Yes, very much so!! SO glad I didn’t break anything. And yes, coastal living really calls for the blues, whites and naturals, for sure! Same for us here! Thank you, Susan…wishing you a very happy new year! xoxo

  4. Your home looks wonderful! What a great new bright and sunny space to work in (I see you snuck in a little red😉). Red works well in my traditional rustic home but I did an all gold tree this year with pine cone ornaments and glitter snowflakes and love it! (Slim trees for the win, easier to have multiples without rearranging to accommodate huge trees!). I’m embracing simplicity and used a lot of greenery and white lights that can stay up longer for winter coziness. So thankful you are okay after your fall, so scary! We have stairs in our current home and I definitely have to be more mindful of using the handrail and watching my steps. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and your family!🎄🎄🎄

    1. Thanks, Vicki!! Yes, just a bit!! haha!! I bet that is just beautiful and yes, a thousand percent, to the slim trees! We only have the one big one in the living room and I told my husband I’m selling that one and getting another slim tree to replace it. It really takes up too much space and it’s ridiculously heavy on top of that. We are getting too old for all that!! lol I’m so looking forward to leaving them up for a few weeks of winter. It will certainly make for a happier space during the dreary cold months.
The fall was definitely scary. Hopefully, won’t do that again! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a very Happy New Year! xoxo

  5. Oh Nancy! Your home is absolutely gorgeous all decked out for Christmas! I love everything you did – it’s perfect for a coastal home. And your new office room is killah!
May your new year be peaceful, healthy and happy. Take care.

    1. Thank you, Michele!! We are really enjoying the new space!! Although, we haven’t moved offices yet but I’m so looking forward to working in that bright and beautiful space soon. Happy New Year to you! xoxo

  6. Your home looks so refreshing, Nancy.
I’m so glad that you didn’t break anything when you fell. However, stairs are a danger for sure, but I got the toe of my foot caught in the leg of my pajamas and landed flat on my face and that was in the hallway. I am now quick to nix any pants with a wide leg!
Just love those puppies! Have they made the new room their own yet? It is going to be so pleasant working in there and enjoying the views. Kudos to hubby and YOU!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful new year, filled with joy, prosperity and peace!

    1. Thank you so much, Caye!!
And you and me both! Gosh, that was no fun. And yikes, I will have to remember that about the pants. I would totally do something like that too!!
Funny you should ask about that, that is actually now Piper’s favorite place to lay. Right in the corner of the new couch. I think it’s because she has such a great view of everything from there. So we moved Ryder’s big bed in there between the desks too. They both have several beds around the house though!! lol
I think it is actually all of ours favorite room. It’s just so sunny and bright and a happy place to be. Will defintely enjoy it once we get all of the things set up in there to work. I hope you have a very blessed new year, friend!! xoxo

  7. So, I am super late catching up here but just had to read your post. Your home looks beautiful. Love the trees and all the decor. I see a slim tree is still available near me. Might just have to get it. Also the snowflake table runner. Was actually looking for a new one this year and didn’t see any I wanted. Still may get it for next year. I love your new room also. Of course also love seeing Ryder at his normal job of supervising. I hope you have a wonderful new year.

    1. Hi Debra! Thank you! And yes, they were 119 when I got them (I got 2), then they went to 59 at the time of this post and now I see they are 29! Oh my! I am going to go get another one and sell my large, heavy one.
Ryder supervises and sleeps, haha. He’s mostly given up that job to Piper, she’s a pretty good watch dog. lol Happy New Year to you! xoxo
