The beautiful and historic Mayhurst Estate in Orange, VA, is a must-visit! I’m sharing all about our fall and Christmas visits today!

Hello, beautiful friends!

We have been busy finishing up the last few things on the room remodel. AND we went back to Mayhurst for some very needed Christmas goodness! (since our house is a wreck right now, right? lol) No, but really, I wanted to make another trip up to see the beautiful Mayhurst all decked out for Christmas. And hopefully, IN SNOW. Well, boo, it melted before we could get there, but it was MAGICAL. Do you know how I know?
Well, Casey, one of the owners of Mayhurst, shared photos over on her Instagram here. And when I say magical, I mean MAGICAL. Ahhhh.

I hope you enjoy seeing the beauty of Mayhurst (in the Charlottesville, VA area, specifically in Orange, VA) in the fall and at Christmas, too. If you are nearby (and even if not, we met folks that flew in from FL on this trip), you should plan a visit! Not only is it a beautiful place to stay, but Casey, her husband, Jason, Emma, and their children are the most amazing hosts. And not only that, there is SO much beauty surrounding this gorgeous home. Lots of places to go hiking, see history, shop, wine tasting, stunning drives, mountain views, and so much more.

Let me preface this entire post by saying I took SO many more photos than this. But it’s hard to share them all in one post. So take this as just a little teaser for so much more to do and see. This area is rich in history and brimming with beautiful sights; you will not be disappointed if you decide to visit. As a matter of fact, you’ll probably need to visit more than once to try to do all the things

My husband and I (both complete history freaks) cannot wait to visit again, probably sometime in the spring.

If you are interested in learning more, here’s a little bit of info to get you started on your journey.

FALL

By the way, there is nothing more beautiful than fall in the mountains.

Okay, we are going right from daytime to night, sorry! ha! I thought I had taken a daytime photo, but I couldn’t find it.

One of the old signs, from previous owners, hangs in the barn out back.

The little Farmhouse Cottage, where you can also stay (it was once the schoolhouse for the original estate owner’s children).

We’ve been inside, and it’s absolutely adorable.

Stonewall Jackson slept in this room. So much rich history in this area! (and home!)

Breakfast was absolutely excellent (and accommodating) every single morning.

The grounds are just glorious, as well.

So much to do in the surrounding area. The weather is just perfect this time of year.

CHRISTMAS (DECEMBER)

On our way in, we stopped at one of our favorite, and very dog-friendly, wineries. (Do you spy my fella and my sweetest girl??)

Merrie Mill Winery… (it is in Keswick, VA, very close to where my daughter and I stayed a couple of years ago and shared a bit about in this post here.)

It’s a beautiful place, and did I mention, very dog friendly?? ;)

Piper went with us. She’s the sweetest! And the easiest traveling dog. (Ryder stayed home with our son)

We also bought tickets to the Southern Living Idea House for this trip, which was also in Keswick. I may do a separate post to share all about that. But here we are at the house below.

But just look at Mayhurst all decked out for the holidays. We missed the beautiful snow, but the gorgeous Victorian decorations were perfect.

So warm and welcoming. Lovely music, scents, and sights create the most amazing experience.

We stayed in the Garden Room this time (it is pet-friendly; the Farmhouse Cottage is, too).

This is the walk-out basement area, and we absolutely LOVED it!

If you scroll back up to see the foyer table in red and the staircase, this room is just down those stairs. Last time we were up the stairs.

And at night…(we were in the room upstairs to the left last time, the dark windowed one…and our room this time was the two windows to the right of the stairs at ground level)

The quaint town of Orange all decorated for the holidays…

So, so sweet! We attended a market on our last day…

And saw Santa at the train station!

Not only that, Casey (owner of Mayhurst), told us about a Christmas Music event at a small, local church, and of course, we said, yes, we would love to attend!

Some of the other guests of Mayhurst that we met were also in attendance. There was literally standing room only in this tiny church. We ended up in the row right in front of those other guests, and she leaned in and said, “I feel like I am in a Hallmark Christmas movie…” YES!! It really did. It was magical, too. One of the best experiences we have had.

I can not recommend Mayhurst enough! We love it! Every single thing about it. The location, the history, and the amazing owners who are the sweetest people you will ever meet. (and the other guests we have met both times we stayed, too) Such a fulfilling experience all the way around.

By the way, there is absolutely no affiliation between them and me. We just loved it so much, I wanted to share it with you all.

Have a blessed weekend, friends! Enjoy this time and soak in every single second! Christmas is upon us!

  1. This definitely looks like a place I would love to stay! Virginia is one of the states I haven’t yet visited, and I also love history, antiques, and small town charm. Saving this post to my travel board, thank you so much for sharing and Merry Christmas!
