This small console table makeover restored the beauty of this beat-up piece. Great design, just needed a little love…and paint!

Hello, beautiful friends! And happy Trashy Treasures Tuesday. How is it already time for another one?? I think this last month flew by because it all felt like one very long, icy/snow day! Ugh, boo, no thank you. It’s hard to even leave the house. This frigid cold weather can go away.

Well, anyway, here we are! Let’s see what we are all up to this month!

New around here? A few friends and I get together on the second Tuesday of every month to share our latest trash to treasure makeover. So, once you are done reading about mine, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post so you can go see theirs, too.

Small Console Table Makeover

I found this very sad-looking console table at the ReStore. My favorite place to shop lately. I can almost always find something that needs some love there. On this trip, I found 3 pieces, so stay tuned for the other two!

brown and green and yellow console table

It was so beat up. You might be able to see all the edges there.

And, as you can probably see, the entire thing is presswood.

sanded area of table showing underneath

Probably why it’s so chipped up everywhere.

There were water spots (again, no surprise since it’s presswood), so my sweet husband took it outside and sanded it for me. Didn’t I mention how ridiculously cold it’s been here?? haha I am not made for this!! lol

I actually went over all of those with wood filler to even them out and seal them. I didn’t get a photo of that, apparently!

rolling the paint on the bottom shelf

I used Wood Wick, which is an all-around great color. Neutral and goes with just about everything.

I used my paintbrush to apply, then went over it with my velour roller. That thing has seen some paint. lol It’s about time to retire it at this point, but still getting some good use out of it.

rolling paint on top

It took about 2 coats to fully cover it.

Once it was fully dry, I pulled out some old transfers I had left over.

table painted and laying gold transfers script on top

I decided to use parts of these two pieces.

two gold script transfers on top of table

Oh, you can see my spray mister on the floor in this photo. I forgot to mention, while I was painting, the paint was drying and left brush/roll marks. I used my continuous spray mister to lightly mist the paint, keeping it workable longer. Works great for that!

Here’s what I went with for the main area.

attaching the gold script transfer to top

Using my Transfer Tool, I applied the transfer.

Then I cut the numbers off of the other piece and applied them here.

I kept the same knob, just gave it a bit of gold glam.

bronze gilder's paste wax can and dark brown knob

I love how, when using Gilder’s Paste, you can just hit the raised areas and leave the dark behind.

And the inside of the drawer also got painted to match, BUT I gave it a little surprise, too.

Once I was done with the transfers, I gave the whole thing one coat of Tough Coat Topcoat in Matte. (supplies are listed/linked above)

Now this small console table is all refreshed and ready to be reloved!

The word Nancy is written in elegant, flowing black script, reminiscent of Chalk Style Paint For Furniture, with a heart shape used to form the dot above the letter i. The background is plain white.

  1. Boy! That poor thing really needed you Nancy! Now it’s fresh and lovely. The transfer is just great and that little surprise inside warms the heart. Good job, Nancy!

  2. That’s not a color I would choose but it’s so good on this table, Nancy. I think I need to consider earthy colors more often!

  3. WOW!! Sure gave it a fine new beautiful life. It’s hard to believe it is the same table. The power of paint is shocking sometimes!!

  4. A little late with my response but…What a cute makeover. Such elegance and I love the little surprise inside the drawer.
