I thought it would be fun to take a look at some holiday decorations in the county I grew up in.
Well, the town within the county. (The County of York)
Yorktown.
Part of the “Historic Triangle” that is Yorktown/Jamestown/Williamsburg.

Literally minutes from the high school I attended and within ten from where I lived and grew up.
I don’t live in Yorktown anymore but still live in the beautiful Hampton Roads area.

So here’s a look at this beautiful little town at Christmas….Yorktown-1691.
With a little history thrown in too! I am a huge history fanatic after all!
And there’s a ton of history in this little place!
Be warned…this is a picture heavy post! I couldn’t help myself!

The Yorktown Monument–
The first monument authorized by the Federal Government on Oct 29, 1781.
It was not completed until 1884, however.

The Custom House…..

And across the street from the Custom House is the “Cole Digges” home which
now houses a quaint little restaurant called
“The Carrot Tree”

And a little history on it….

The Nelson House…..

We had our Senior Class Picture taken in the courtyard next to the Nelson House.
Here is picture of a cannon ball still stuck in the side of this same house.
If you look closely, you can see it in the large picture above also.


The Hornsby House Inn just down the street from these homes and the Monument…

Grace Episcopal Church
Over 300 years old and still an active church…..

Cool tree in the wall that surrounds the church…..

The Battlefields.…and the remaining trenches…

You’re not allowed to walk on them. Rightly so!
And George Washington said, stay off!

A little wildlife out on one of the battlefields….thinking they’re allowed to walk where they want….;)

While out, we were faced with reminders of the tremendous loss that had just occurred on Friday in CT.
Not that we had been able to remove it from our minds.
It was a wonderful day spent with my husband and son out taking these pictures….but a somber one.

Shops & Restaurants down by the waterfront…..

Another shop….along the York River.….

A couple of our favorite “dives” at the beach….all decorated up for the Holidays….
…and the pretty house up on the hill in the background overlooking the York River.

All clean and off to visit with friends….

And hubby got me taking pics…..he’s a funny one.

I so love living near the water…..

….there’s just a peacefulness I adore…

I enjoyed spending the day with my husband and son out taking these photos.
I was thankful to be with them …. and have them with me.
