Family Christmas traditions are what make the holidays! Whether it’s baking, watching old movies, making crafty things or just spending time with family, all of these things make it a holiday to remember.

Hi sweet friends! I’m back today sharing a few of my family’s favorite family Christmas traditions along with some of my talented blogging friends.
I’d LOVE to hear of any holiday traditions you might have, too! So please share if you feel so inclined.

Baking

That is one of my number 1 holiday traditions.
I love to bake but don’t do it as often as I used to.
But when the holidays roll around, I am covered in flour and sugar from head to toe!
Well, not really, but I am a messy baker. lol

These Shortbread Cookies are a favorite of ours…..

And they are easy peasy to make, too.
But frosting them? Well, let’s just say I think they are really pretty but I usually stick to painting furniture, not cookies.

I love gathering all the supplies and getting busy with the Christmas music blaring. (that is a requirement, by the way)

My kids are grown now so I don’t get much “help” from them these days with the cookie making (or cookie dough eating, yum).
And this dough is divine, by the way. (and egg-free, so good to go!)

These make a great cookie rolled and cut into squares (easy) with no icing.
Or rolled and cut with cookie cutters and iced.

Another favorite cookie that I make every year is these…..

Cracked Brown Sugar Cookies…and they are quite addictive (in a good, bad way, haha) so be careful if you decide to make them!
I think you should!
Here’s the recipe.

How about Red Velvet? That just says holidays, don’t you think?

This Red Velvet Trifle is not only delicious but it makes a beautiful presentation too. (and it’s so easy to throw together!)

More holiday recipes that make an appearance at our home most years? Old Fashioned Gingerbread and Real (old family recipe) Red Velvet Cake

And more food, every single Christmas morning (a tradition passed on to us from my husband’s aunt)…

Egg Junk….no I don’t think that was the original name but it’s the name that stuck with the kids in my husband’s family.
I can certainly tell you, there is nothing “junky” about it! ;)
It is SO, so good.
Comfort food at its finest and perfect to make the night ahead and just reheat in the morning for a low-stress Christmas morning breakfast.

Crafting

I like to get a little crafty each year and make something for our home. I’d say that’s a bit of a tradition.

Like the ornaments (bookmarks and gift bags) I repurposed from these old cards this year….

Old Movies

Lastly, we always watch holiday/Christmas movies. Always.
I’ve even been known to watch those sappy (corny) Hallmark holiday movies. hee hee
But two that are at the top of the list?

Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase.
We can watch it year after year. It’s so ridiculous but we just love it!
Comfy blanket and slippers, my favorite people by my side, puppy content with his chew toy….and the glow from the Christmas lights….perfect!

And the other one we always watch?

Christmas Eve is when we gather to watch this old classic…..

It’s a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart.
I just adore this movie!

    1. Oh yes, you definitely need to throw that one together then! It’s so pretty too. Hope they enjoy it as much as we do! :) xoxo

  1. I think your cookies are beautifully decorated! And I think I may try those brown sugar cookies – reminds me of cookies my neighbor used to make each year.

And we, too, watch It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas eve! Not a dry eye in the house!

    :) Linda

    1. Haha, yes, that egg junk is the bomb…with the bad name! ;) And yes, you’re the smart one with a tradition like that! ;) Merry Christmas Kelly!xo

  2. Nancy, baking is definitely a tradition for Christmas. I could never make cookies look as pretty as yours. I usually have my granddaughter come over to help me decorate them. They may not look very good, but they taste good.
    Have a Merry Christmas!

  3. baking is one of our big ones, too!!! and eating cookie dough as we go…. of course!
and we love to craft as well and watch all of the christmas movies!
those brown sugar cookies look divine!!!

  4. Okay… shortbread cookies it is this week! Ryker (my 2-year-old grandson) is HIGHLY allergic to eggs. I always feel bad when we have cookies or cake and he can’t have any. So, G’ma to the rescue this Christmas, thanks to Nancy! ;-)

Also, my niece and I are the family connoisseurs of red velvet (anything and everything). Gonna have to try this, too! May be a new Christmas tradition for our fam.

Love It’s a Wonderful Life… and our fam always laughs at Elf. Also, have you seen Hallmark’s “9 Lives of Christmas”. It’s not a cat movie, but it’s so awkwardly funny… and the hero is SO easy on the eyes! ;-)

    1. Oh YAY!!! That is awesome!! I’m so glad. These are perfect then! Hope you like them and the Red Velvet. No, I don’t think I’ve seen that one but will have to look it up! ;) Merry Christmas, Julie! xoxo

  5. Nancy, Your home is just beautiful! I love your cookies. They look much better than mine. That snowflake is so sweet. I have so enjoyed this tour and reading everyones traditions. I’ve even come across a few I’d like to implement in the future! Merry Christmas! XO Christy

  6. Hi Nancy –

It looks like your holiday is going to be delish! I used to have baking helpers, too. But like yours, they are grown up and don’t help, only eat the finished goods. ?

    Merry Christmas

    1. Aw, yay!! I’m so glad, Addie! And yes, I’ve had it since 2015 but have not had enough extra time to fully devote to it. However, I am planning to get back to it so good time to sign up!! :) xo

  7. Nancy, All of your recipes look divine. And your choice of Christmas movies, too. I want to share with you one of my favorites from Hallmark. It is not your regular Hallmark movie where Christmas or the family business or the town is being saved. It’s “One Christmas Eve” with Anne Heche and it’s so funny and it’s just plain fun. And there’s a puppy involved and he causes all kinds of trouble! We love this movie and I just wanted to share it with you. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    1. Thank you, Janet! Thank you so much for sharing that movie. I will definitely look that one up! I’m always looking for new things to watch so that’s great! :) Merry Christmas to you too!! xoxo

  8. Hi Nancy. Thank you for sharing your traditions and recipes. I’ve printed off the shortbread cookies and the ‘Egg junk’ lol. Love your traditions. Have a very Merry Christmas and hugs to those pups of yours, of course =).

    1. Hi Debra! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And I think you will love the cookies and egg junk! I make the egg junk every single year for Christmas and New Year’s. (and not again till those holidays so it’s always a special treat!) Merry Christmas and will definitely hug the sweet puppies for you xoxo
